Minton & Donello Popcorn 6 x 500g

Minton & Donello Popcorn is supplied as whole, unpopped corn kernels ready for preparing fresh popcorn at home. When heated correctly, moisture inside each kernel turns to steam, causing the outer shell to open and the starch inside to expand into light, crisp popcorn.

The product contains popping corn as its only ingredient, with no oil, salt, sugar or flavourings added to the uncooked kernels. This provides a versatile base that can be prepared and seasoned according to individual preference.

For a classic savoury option, freshly popped corn can be served with a small amount of salt or combined with seasonings such as black pepper, smoked paprika, chilli powder, garlic granules or dried herbs. Melted butter or a suitable dairy-free alternative may also be added after popping.

For sweet popcorn, the prepared kernels can be seasoned with cinnamon, cocoa powder or sugar. They may also be coated with melted chocolate, caramel-style sauce or another suitable topping. Allow wet coatings to cool and set before serving or storing.

The kernels can be prepared in a large, heavy-based saucepan with a secure lid. A small quantity of suitable cooking oil can be heated in the pan before adding enough kernels to form a single layer across the base. The covered pan should be shaken carefully at intervals to help distribute the heat.

Remove the pan from the heat when the popping slows to several seconds between pops. Leave it covered briefly before opening, keeping the pan away from the face because hot steam may escape. Some kernels may remain unpopped and should be discarded.

Freshly prepared popcorn is suitable for film nights, parties, family gatherings and sharing bowls. Once cooled, it can also be combined with pretzels, dried fruit, chocolate pieces, nuts or seeds to create a customised snack mix, subject to individual dietary requirements.

How to prepare

Add a small amount of suitable cooking oil to a large, heavy-based saucepan and heat carefully. Add enough kernels to create a single layer across the base of the pan, then cover securely with a lid.

Cook over a medium heat and shake the covered pan carefully at regular intervals. Remove from the heat when the popping slows to several seconds between pops. Allow the pan to stand briefly before opening carefully, then season and serve as preferred.
