Clearspring Organic Tofu 300g

Clearspring Organic Japanese Silken Tofu has a velvety texture and delicate flavour that works beautifully in both savoury and sweet recipes. Made in Japan with water from the Shikoku mountains, it is prepared from organic whole soya beans and set with nigari, a traditional mineral-rich coagulant derived from seawater.

Unlike firm or extra-firm tofu, this silken tofu is soft, smooth and easy to blend. Add cubes to miso soup, serve chilled with spring onion and a savoury dressing, or gently scramble it with herbs and seasoning. Its creamy consistency also makes it useful for sauces, dips, dressings, cheesecakes and chocolate desserts.

The tofu is ready to eat straight from the pack and does not require refrigeration before opening, making it a useful store-cupboard ingredient. Its mild flavour readily takes on marinades, dressings, spices and other ingredients used in the recipe.

How to Use

Open the carton and drain gently before use. Silken tofu is delicate, so remove and cut it carefully. Serve cold, warm it gently in soup or crumble it into a tofu scramble. It can also be blended until smooth for sauces, dips, dressings, fillings and desserts.

Serving Suggestions

Serve chilled with grated ginger, spring onion and soya sauce for a simple tofu dish. Add cubes near the end of cooking when making miso soup, or blend with cocoa and a suitable sweetener for a smooth chocolate dessert. It can also be mixed with herbs, spices and vegetables for a soft tofu scramble.

Important Preparation Information

This is a soft silken tofu rather than a pressed firm tofu. Handle carefully and avoid vigorous stirring. It is not the best choice for recipes requiring firm cubes to be stir-fried or turned repeatedly. Do not freeze and do not microwave the tofu inside its original packaging.

Storage

Store the unopened pack in a cool, dry place. Once opened, place any unused tofu under fresh water in an airtight container, refrigerate and consume within one day.
