Calder's Kitchen Fiery Beetroot Chutney builds on the family's classic beetroot recipe with a distinct habanero chilli kick. Beetroot provides earthy sweetness and vivid colour, while apple and onion add body and fruitiness before the chilli develops into a stronger, lingering warmth.

The recipe contains 21% beetroot and 4% habanero mash, making it considerably more assertive than the standard Beetroot Chutney while still retaining the sweet-savoury character of a chutney rather than becoming a pure hot sauce. Ginger adds another gentle layer of warmth and helps connect the fruit, root vegetable and chilli flavours.

Use it with strong cheddar, goat's cheese or corned beef, spoon it into burgers and grilled sandwiches, or serve it at a barbecue with sausages, meat, halloumi and vegetables.
